**Update December 22, 2025: After nearly two years of work and collaboration with the Historical Commission and Building Maintenance, the City Council approved $356k for updates to the Wellington House at 735 Trapelo Rd. This funding is a major step toward returning the house to Ward 3 and the Waltham community. Thanks to John Millian, Mort Isaacson, Charlie Egirous, Kathy Dufromont, Rachel Malley, the Waltham Historical Commission, and Julie Toole and the Community Preservation Committee for their time and support. The project will address structural integrity, restore original doors and windows, and complete needed interior and exterior repairs. This was a campaign promise I made in 2023 and I am thrilled to see it coming to fruition for Ward 3.
The Wellington House and Farm property at 735-775 Trapelo Road is going through changes. We are acquiring estimates from contractors certified in historical property restoration at this time. The house was gifted to the city and is under the control of the Historical Commission. The farm and open space is under the control the Recreation Department. A wildflower meadow is planned for the open space and the Waltham Land Trust has a Wellington team of volunteers who do great work at the site. Walking paths, invasive species and plantings are being done and maintained by volunteers.
The entire property is limited in use due to several issues:
Wellington House: Lack of adequate parking for events, structural issues of the house, needed restroom upgrades and cosmetic improvements
Wellington Farm: Lack of water supply, lack of parking
I am engaged with the historical commission, CPC, Waltham Land Trust, mayor's office and recreation to start to plan for some use of the property. Please keep an eye on this page for updates. Below is an image carousel that can serve as a "virtual tour" until we get the property usable for the public. We are in the process of acquiring construction estimates to get the house usable by residents and city staff (Sept 2025).
